Home Weddings are a Vibe

There’s something SO special about getting married at home - whether it’s your own home, or the home you grew up in.

However, it can be an overwhelming task as there are just SO many things to consider! Where are the catering team cooking from, and how are service staff accessing that area? Where’s the power coming from and how do you split it so the ovens don’t constantly trip the lights? If you’re bringing in a marquee and lighting, where are the retic and gas lines so you know where to set up any stakes that need to go into the ground? And how and when do you get it all in and back out again before and after the wedding?

We get booked all the time for home residence and property based weddings and they’re always some of our faves! Some of our top tips for things to consider if you’re thinking of holding a wedding at home:

🏡 Start with the logistics floorplan wise - so that’s mapping out lighting, marquee, access for catering & bar service and placement of toilet units, coolroom and if necessary, mapping out car or bus access for transport

🏡 Decide rules on home access - will guests be accessing your toilet inside? Will the verandah, or living space be part of the event area, or will the whole party take place outdoors with only suppliers inside? Make sure you’re clear on access points and plan your floorplan accordingly

🏡 Bring suppliers in for site visits, and ask all the questions. Make sure they know where they can and can’t go, what they can and can’t use, and make sure they’re comfortable with operating in the space. Them being comfortable and confident in their area of the set up is going to make things 10 times easier when it comes to the day itself!

🏡 Finally - if you’re not working with a planner, hire an on the day coordinator to act as your venue manager. There’ll be suppliers turning up all through the day to drop off and set up, and often they’re going to need someone to answer questions for them,  so having a trusted coordinator in charge of managing the what, the where and the who is essential!
