Planning your wedding? Don’t make these 7 mistakes…

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and it's natural to want everything to be absolutely perfect. However, as someone who does this literally every single day, I’ve seen a few mistakes that keep coming up when couples are planning their big day…

  1. Not setting a budget

One of the biggest mistakes couples make when planning their wedding is not setting a budget! I know, I know I’m a broken record on this subject but without a budget, it's easy to overspend and even end up with debt as you start your life as newlyweds. To help with this, sit down with your partner and determine how much you can realistically afford to spend. Once you have a budget in place, it can act as the guideline for all the other decisions you will need to make as you plan your wedding day.

  1. Trying to please everyone

Soo you just got engaged, and now? Every single member of your family, your friends and your neighbour’s cousin are giving you advice and offering suggestions for how your big day should be… sound familiar?

While it's important to consider the needs and preferences of your guests, you shouldn't sacrifice your own desires to make others happy. Remember that this day is about you and your partner, and you should plan the wedding that reflects your personalities and values.

  1. Not hiring a wedding planner

Many couples try to DIY their whole wedding to save money, but sometimes this actually creates more stress than if they had sought help along the way. Even if you are happy to ride solo throughout the planning process, you cannot DIY the on-the-day coordination and also be the one walking down the aisle… just saying!

Hiring a wedding planner or on-the-day coordinator can help ensure that all your vendors know where to go, and that your big day runs smoothly.

  1. Waiting too long to book vendors

Wedding vendors with a strong reputation for being the best at what they do tend to book up quickly, especially heading into peak wedding seasons. By waiting too long to book vendors, you run the risk of not being able to work with your dream team, so if you have a photographer, florist, caterer or makeup artist in mind, get in touch with them as soon as possible once you’ve set a date!

 5. Focusing too much on trends

Wedding trends come and go, and it's easy to get caught up in the latest fads. However, it's important to remember what you and your partner’s non-negotiables are for the day and build everything else around those rather than the styles you keep seeing all over Insta.

6. Not communicating with vendors

Effective communication with your vendors is key to ensuring that your wedding day goes smoothly. Be clear about your expectations and ask questions when you have them. Additionally, be sure to read and understand any contracts or agreements before signing them.

7. Neglecting to schedule downtime

Weddings are busy, chaotic, and stressful, and it's important to schedule some downtime for yourself and your partner. Plan some time alone before the wedding to relax and prepare, and even if you aren’t heading off to your honeymoon straight away, consider scheduling a few days off after the wedding to decompress and enjoy each other's company.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but avoiding these common mistakes can make the process so much smoother and more enjoyable! To chat about specifics about your wedding planning journey, book in for your free consult today!
